The "Check Engine" light on your dashboard is one of the most dreaded warnings, and one of its most common causes is error code P0420: "Catalyst system efficiency below threshold."
This fault occurs when the catalytic converter on your gasoline-powered car has become ineffective or when it has been replaced with a suppressor for racing use.
At Digi-Tec, we offer a definitive software solution to eliminate this error, allowing your vehicle to operate without warning lights.
The Catalyst and its Sensors: How Does the System Work?
-
Lambda Probe 1 (Primary):
Located before the catalytic converter, this probe is crucial for the engine's operation.
It constantly measures the oxygen in the exhaust gases and sends this information to the ECU so it can adjust the air-fuel mixture in real time. This sensor is never modified. -
The Catalyst:
It is an exhaust component that contains precious metals.
Its function is to convert the most harmful gases (such as carbon monoxide) into less harmful ones. -
Lambda Probe 2 (Secondary):
Located after the catalytic converter, its sole function is diagnostic . It compares its reading with that of the first probe.
If the readings are very similar, it means that the catalytic converter is not doing its job of "cleaning" the gases, and that is when the ECU turns on the check engine light (error P0420).
The Electronic Solution: Precise and Permanent
Our service consists of reprogramming the control unit (ECU) to disable the diagnostic function of the second lambda sensor. Using software, we either make the ECU ignore the signal from this second sensor or simulate a stable, "correct" value.
The result is that the P0420 and related error codes will never appear again , without affecting engine performance at all, since the first lambda probe (the important one) continues to function normally.
The process is quick: our dealer reads your vehicle's software, our engineers perform the modification, and within minutes the corrected file is written back into the ECU.
Legal Notice and Real Consequences: VERY IMPORTANT!
At Digi-Tec , transparency is our priority. Before requesting this service, it's essential that you understand the following implications:
Legality and Use: The removal or cancellation of the catalytic converter makes the vehicle non-compliant with its emissions approval, making its use illegal on the road.
public in Spain and throughout the European Union.
This service is intended for use on closed circuits. It is the sole responsibility of the user.
of the client to comply with current legislation.
Manufacturer's Warranty: Performing this modification will void the vehicle's official warranty.
