GPF/OPF

Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF/OPF) Solution:

More performance and sound

Most modern direct-injection gasoline engines, especially high-performance ones, come standard with a particulate filter (GPF/OPF) to meet the strict Euro 6 emissions regulations.

While it serves an environmental purpose, this component significantly limits power and, above all, engine sound.

At Digi-Tec, we offer solutions for when this system fails or when you're looking to unleash your vehicle's true character for competition use.

What is a Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF/OPF)?

The GPF (Gasoline Particulate Filter) or OPF (Otto Particulate Filter) is a device located in the exhaust system, similar to the DPF on diesel engines, whose sole purpose is to trap and eliminate the soot particles generated in direct injection engines.

Because gasoline engines operate at higher temperatures than diesel engines, the process of cleaning or regenerating the filter is simpler and generally less problematic. However, its physical presence remains an obstacle to the flow of
exhaust gases.

The Enthusiast's Problem: Why Override a GPF?

Restriction and Loss of Power: The filter acts as a "plug" in the exhaust system. This back pressure limits the engine's ability to expel exhaust gases, restricting the power and torque it could develop.

Muffled Exhaust Sound : This is the most common complaint. The GPF muffles and filters the engine's natural, sporty sound, eliminating much of its character and pops and bangs, resulting in a much quieter and more civilized tone than desired.

Limited Readiness Potential : When performing a performance upgrade (such as a Stage 2 remapping), the GPF becomes the main bottleneck, preventing significant gains from being achieved safely.

The Solution: Benefits of GPF/OPF Removal

  • Immediate Power Release:

Removing the restriction allows the engine to breathe more efficiently, resulting in increased power and torque, especially in conjunction with an ECU remap.

  • Sports Sound Recovery:

Enjoy the authentic, unfiltered sound of your engine. GPF suppression restores richness, volume, and aggressiveness to the exhaust.

  • Improved Throttle Response:

A freer exhaust flow allows the engine to rev more readily and throttle response to be more direct and instantaneous.

Our Process: Physical and Electronic Intervention

To ensure a perfect result, the process is twofold:

1. Physical Modification:

The GPF body is removed and its internal ceramic contents emptied, or the entire exhaust section is replaced with a high-flow suppressor pipe (GPF-delete pipe) .

2. ECU Remapping:

This step is crucial. The control unit software is modified to completely eliminate management of the GPF and its pressure sensors.

This prevents the car from entering emergency mode or displaying a warning light.

Legal Notice and Real Consequences: VERY IMPORTANT!

At Digi-Tec , transparency is our priority. Before requesting this service, it's essential that you understand the following implications:

Legality and Use: The removal of anti-pollution systems such as the GPF/OPF renders the vehicle non-compliant with Euro 6 certification, making its use illegal on public roads in Spain and throughout the European Union.

This service is intended for racing vehicles. It is the customer's sole responsibility to comply with current legislation.

Manufacturer's Warranty: Performing this modification will void the vehicle's official warranty.
